1- Where to Plant Your Trees
Knowing the location of where you would like to plant your trees is very important. In order to properly plan ahead, you need to consider a spot that can house a fully grown tree, not just the sapling you buy from the store.
We have some location suggestions:
-The Library
-Your Backyard
-City Hall
-Community Center
-School Gardens
-Sidewalks or Streets
-Apartment Complex
-Church
-A Free Forest
2- Examine Your Chosen Site
After you have picked a place where you want to plant a tree, now you need to figure out exactly where your tree is going to be planted. If you have chosen a location that is not owned by you, you need to obtain permission in order to proceed to plant your tree. Make sure to get written permission for the landowner that it is ok for you to be planting a tree. Next, if you haven’t already decided on a tree, now is the time to figure out what kind of tree you want planted.
Take Note
Check around the location to make sure it is the best possible location for the particular type of tree you want to plant.
Consider the following:
-Are there any other trees close by?
-Is there a water source close by?
-Any power cables hanging or nearby?
-They type of soil and how fast water saturates through it
-What is the height of the tree you are planting going to grow to?
-Are there any pipelines underground?
-Will enough sunlight reach your tree?
-Is there a sidewalk or road close by?
-Is the planting area adequate to support your tree fully grown?
3- Plan When to Plant
The most optimum time to plant a tree is either in the spring of fall, depending on where you live. This will ensure that your tree has the best chance to grow strong. To help you figure out what season you should plant your tree in, take a look at planting zones, maps, and also the weather!
4- Obtaining Final Permission to Plant
If your chosen tree planting location is not your own yard, the best course of action is to get to know the primary person who will be looking after the tree. This is typically a groundskeeper or caretaker of the location. Always make sure to ask for permission before planting a tree on someone else’s property. A good way to do this is by setting up a meeting to talk about your project. Again, make sure you get written permission directly from the location owner before you start digging. You also need to make sure that you sign the contract along with them to solidify the agreement.
5- Planting Day
Time to start planting your trees! Being prepared for this day is important in order to make it run smoothly. Before this day, make sure to have the following planned:
-Gather all appropriate materials and tools
-Pick a tree
-Schedule appropriate amount of time
-Prep the site
6- After Planting Care
Now that you have successfully planted your tree, you need to make sure that it has the right after planting care that will help it grow and thrive. You need to consider the following:
-Mulch
-Tree shelters
-Water intake
-Daily care routine
-Aftercare routine
-Calendar care tracking
